Information Sources for Policymakers: Congressional Budget Office 101

From the Congressional Budget Office (CBO)

A presentation by Lara Robillard, an analyst in CBO’s Budget Analysis Division, at AcademyHealth’s Health Policy Orientation.

SUMMARY:

CBO was established to give the Congress a stronger role in budget matters. The agency provides analysis of budgetary and economic issues that is objective and impartial. It is strictly nonpartisan and does not make policy recommendations.

In her presentation, Robillard discusses how CBO follows processes that are specified in statute, or that it has developed in concert with the Budget Committees and Congressional leadership. Her presentation also includes a discussion of CBO’s role, it’s organization, and the scope of CBO reporting.
